Ranthambore is a national park equipped with a vast wildlife reserve located in Rajasthan, North India. This beautiful place is a home to leopards, marsh crocodiles and tigers. Its landmarks include the imposing 10th century ranthambore fort, on a hilltop and the ganesh mandir temple. Moreover, there is a park or garden equipped with abundance of water lilies.
Ranthambore national park was stated a wildlife sanctuary in 1957 and in 1974, it gained the protection of “Project Tiger”. It got it’s status of a National Park in 1981.
This National park is a wildlife enthusiast and photographer’s dream. It offers an outstanding accommodation and deliver the best internal transportation facilities. The park remains open every year from October to May. Famous for the exciting and frequent tiger sightings captured dramatically in several books.

Arrival – Ranthambore can be reached via road, rail or air from other cities. The nearest railway station is Sawai Madhopur. Many important trains pass by the station. Palace on Wheels, Royal Rajasthan on Wheels, Maharajas’ Express, and The Indian Maharaja include 8 days round trip of Ranthambore. However the bus connectivity is not excellent yet it links all the major cities of Rajasthan. Jaipur and Kota are the nearest airports. Private taxis can be hired from there to Ranthambore.

Ranthambhore fort: The construction of fortress dates back to 8th century A.D. by a Chauhan king. Located on a hill called ‘Thambhore’ the structure is made of red karauli stone. The entrance of fort is guarded by massive gate that protects imprints of gradual historic development of Rajasthan. The fort was governed by Chauhans, then Ala-ud-din Khilji, the ruler of Delhi; and lastly the Mughal Empire. It was regarded as the comptroller between North India and Central India trade routes. In 2013, Rathambore fort was named it UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Ganesh Temple: Ganesh Temple at the entrance of the fort is visited by hundreds of devotees every day. The idols of Lord Ganesha, his wife Riddhi Siddhi, and two sons Shub Labh along with his vehicle mouse are placed here. King Hammir built this eminent temple in 1300 A.D.
Badal Mahal: Literally meaning, palace of cloud is a perched palace complex including a 84-column cenotaph of king Hammir, large Padam Talab, Raj Bagh Talab and the Milak Talab. These might attract every visitor. Badal Mahal is thick 200ft high walled massive structure that encloses ruins of two temples of Lord Shiva and Ganesh, a Jain temple as well. It offers splendid view of the surrounding greener area and lakes from the north cliff. The site witnessed the first ever ‘jauhar’ (self immolation) of Rajput queens after their husband’s death.
Ranthambore National Park: Head to morning jungle safari. Ranthambore National Park used to be private hunting ground for Maharaja of Jaipur before independence but was declared wildlife sanctuary in 1957. Though Ranthambore was established as Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary in 1955 but has achieved various landmarks over the years. In 1973, it became an important Project Tiger reserve. Tourists coming to Ranthambore aspire to see Tiger, but one needs to be lucky enough to spot India’s National Animal. The deciduous forest shelters nilgai, wild boar, hyena, sambar, leopard, and chital. More than 300 species of birds and wild animals live fearlessly in the Government protected park.
